Days 2-3 - Vancouver

Renowned as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, Vancouver is home to spectacular natural scenery with breath-taking views in every direction, has a bustling metropolitan core and boasts one of the mildest climates in Canada. Enjoy an included sightseeing tour of the major sites of the city. There are numerous attractions, all within easy reach of downtown; visit Stanley Park, Gastown, Chinatown and Granville Island with its craft workshops and superb restaurants. For a stunning vista of Vancouver and its harbour, take the gondola up Grouse Mountain.

Day 4 - Vancouver – Victoria

Take a ferry-cruise through the scenic Gulf Islands to the capital of British Columbia, stately Victoria.

Overnights (3): Inn at Laurel Point - Victoria

Days 5-6 - Victoria - whale watching

The capital city of British Columbia, Victoria is situated on the southern tip of Vancouver Island and is world-renowned for its charming ambience. Sometimes referred to as the “garden city” Victoria has a bustling harbour and heritage buildings. Enjoy an included whale-watching cruise in search of Orcas, minke whales and grey whales. Visit the beautiful Butchart Gardens and explore the harbour area by horse drawn carriage or stroll amongst the narrow streets and markets.

Days 7-8 - Victoria - Tofino (215 miles)

Pickup your hire car today and head northwards to Chemainus and once in the town, follow the footprints to view the internationally acclaimed wall murals. Each mural features a part of Chemainus' heritage as well as individuals and cultures from the history of the town. Big, detailed, and colourful, the murals cover the sides of buildings so that you should stand back to appreciate them. Continue west to the Pacific coast and Tofino.

Overnights (2): Jamie's Rainforest Inn - Tofino

Day 9 - Tofino - Black Bears - Campbell River (159 miles)

The coastal district of Tofino is an intriguing contrast of forests and sandy beaches. Close by is the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve which preserves outstanding examples of coastal rainforest, surf-swept beaches, coastal marine life and the cultural history of the area.

Encounter one of the most fearsome and fascinating animals that roam the West Coast of Vancouver Island; the black bear. At low tide, board the Explorathor, a 40-passenger vessel, and speed along the lush coastline to the bear’s feeding grounds. When the tide goes out, the bears emerge from the forests and forage along the shores in search of rock crabs. These times offer excellent opportunities to view the inquisitive black bear in their natural habitat. Afterwards head for the east coast and the town of Campbell River. Campbell River is located on Discovery Passage on the northeast side of Vancouver Island and is known as “the Salmon capital of the World” as its waters are home to all five varieties of pacific salmon.

Overnight (1): Comfort Inn & Suites - Campbell River

Day 10 - Knight Inlet

Park your car at the seaplane terminal for your flight to Knight Inlet. Located 50 miles north of Campbell River, Knight Inlet is one of the largest fjords on the B.C. coast. Situated 37 miles from the mouth of the inlet is Knight Inlet Lodge. The floating lodge is tucked into Glendale Cove, which offers one of the few protected anchorages in the inlet. Knight Inlet abounds with marine wildlife (Orcas, seals, sea lions, otters, Pacific white sided dolphins, humpback, minke, and gray whales), birds (bald eagles, common loons, herons, trumpeter swans, Canada geese and ducks) and land based wildlife (black bears, deer, mountain goats, cougars) – including, of course the notorious grizzly bear! Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly (brown) bears in British Columbia. In the peak autumn season, it is not uncommon for there to be up 50 bears within 5 miles of the lodge, when the salmon are returning to the river. Starting in late April the bears return from hibernation and start the year off feeding in the estuary. This is the time to see the tiny cubs emerge with their ever-cautious mothers nearby. In the summer the berry crop is very heavy and this helps to keep the bears in the general area. Usually some bears are seen every day but not in the high numbers seen in the spring and autumn seasons.

Overnight (1): Knight Inlet - Knights Inlet Lodge

Day 11 - Knight Inlet – Campbell River - Parksville (77 miles)

The floatplane will return you to Campbell River where you will pick up your car and drive south to the seaside resort of Parksville. Centrally located in Parksville on Vancouver Island, Tigh-Na-Mara captures the very best of the West Coast.  Gaelic for "House by the Sea" Tigh-Na-Mara Seaside Spa Resort & Conference Centre is an all-season destination featuring 192 unique log constructed accommodation units, three restaurants and an award-winning spa.  Set in 22 acres of arbutus and fir forest nestled beside the ocean; the ocean-front location offers direct access to three kilometres of sandy Rathtrevor Beach and the warmest ocean swimming in Canada.
