Day 1 UK – Montreal Your Canada holiday starts with a departure from London Heathrow onboard Air flight to Montreal . On arrival, transfer to your hotel by private sedan. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Overnights(3): Montreal Day 2-3 Montreal Situated on an island in the St Lawrence River , Montreal has been referred to as the ‘Paris of North America’, its history a rich backdrop to its vibrant multicultural life. Montreal has numerous festivals, beautiful botanic gardens, street fairs and innumerable terrace cafés where locals and visitors alike gather to socialize. The lookout on top of Mount Royal presents a superb panorama of the city and the Underground City , linking many buildings and malls, is a shopper's paradise. Try a 1.5 hr cruise on the St Lawrence from the Old Port with views of St Helen's Island and the unspoiled landscape of the Boucherville Islands - (optional from £9). The more adventureous can try river-rafting or jet-boating through the Lachine Rapids - (optional from £23.)
Day 4 Montreal – Quebec City (159 miles) After collecting your hire car, travel northwards along the shoreline of the St Lawrence River to the historic city of Quebec. Overnights(3): Quebec City
Day 5-6 Quebec City Quebec City is the capital of the province of Quebec and the only walled city in North America . Full of historic old world charm and with a wonderful “joie de vivre” atmosphere, the city is located on the north shore of the St Lawrence River . Impressive views of the old port and city can be had from the Old Port Interpretation Centre. Visit the Old Fort, or take a horse drawn carriage ride down the cobbled streets of Old Quebec City with its quaint shops, bistros, and market squares. Why not take a 1.5 hrs cruise on the St Lawrence and cruise the shoreline with spectacular views of Cap Diamant, Ile d'Orleans, Chateau Frontanac and Montmorency Falls - optional from £9).
Day 7 Quebec City – Tadoussac (135 miles) Continue your exploration of Quebec Province today as you drive north east to Tadoussac. Perhaps break your journey at the artist village of Baie-St. Paul , the gateway to two national parks. Overnights(2): Tadoussac
Day 8 Tadoussac A whale-watching cruise from Tadoussac to see finback and beluga whales is well recommended today (optional from £15) or alternatively, stroll along the beach, enjoy a round of golf or just relax as you overlook one of ’s most beautiful bays.
Day 9 Tadoussac – Carleton (309 miles, including the ferry crossing) Take a ferry to the south shore and drive into the Gaspe Peninsula , where the imposing Appalachian mountain chain approaches the sea to create a dramatic landscape of rugged mountains and islands, sheltered coves and picturesque fishing villages. Overnight(1): Carleton
Day 10 Carleton – Perce (125 miles) Continue along the coast to the village of Perce with its magnificent rock standing defiantly against the sea. Enjoy a boat trip around the bay and rock itself to the natural bird sanctuary of Bonaventure Island , home to North America 's largest gannet community. As you circle the island, witness the spectacle of over 50,000 birds nesting on the island's 300-foot cliffs (optional from £9). Day 11 Perce Discover Perce and the surrounding area. Explore this picturesque fishing community or meander across the cliff-tops on one of the several walks that give superb views across the bay and harbour.
Day 12 Perce – Sainte Anne Des Monts (220 miles) Your route today takes you around the northern tip of the Gaspe Peninsula . This magnificent road is surrounded by deep blue sea and steep mountains and is complimented by wonderful views across the Gulf of St. Lawrence . You’ll cross innumerable salmon rivers, as well as the imposing salmon migratory pass in Riviere-La-Madeleine before heading inland to the Gaspesie Provincial Park for your overnight stay. Day 13 Sainte Anne Des Monts – Rimouski (160 miles) Drive back to the coast before turning west to Grand Metis and the famous Jardins De Metis. One of ’s most extravagant and exquisite great gardens, it is also a national historic site and extends for over 17 acres. Also of interest is a maritime museum at Pointe-Au-Pierre. Located in the grounds of the second highest lighthouse in , the whole site is a remarkable witness to ’s maritime past. Overnight(1): Rimouski
Day 14 Rimouski – Trois Rivieres (250 miles) Your route today takes you back towards Montreal . The road hugs the southern shore of the St Lawrence as you pass through the townships of Trois-Pistoles and Riviere Du Loup. As you pass through the Kamouraska area admire the lovely heritage homes as well as the views to the rugged shore on the opposite bank of the river. Cross the St Lawrence at Trois Rivieres , where you will spend your final night. Overnight(1): Trois Rivieres
Day 15 Trois Rivieres – Montreal (90 miles) A leisurely drive to Montreal and the airport. You will be driving along a road that dates back to the early eighteenth century as it links Montreal with Trois Rivieres and Quebec – the three largest towns in New France . Many of the villages on your route seem to be held in aspic, with their lovingly preserved rural architecture. on arrival at Montreal Airport , return your hire car and catch your overnight flight to the UK.
