Day 1
UK to Halifax
Your Canada holiday starts with a departure from Heathrow for your Air Canada flight to Halifax. The brightest lights on Canada’s east Coast – the twin cities of Halifax and Dartmouth, and the busy harbour between them – welcome you to Canada. Halifax is the largest city in the region. It is home to 5 universities and several colleges and has the ambience of an old university town; it is also the shopping, business, and entertainment capital. Ships, from the Schooner Bluenose II to naval vessels, can still be seen in the magnificent harbour, but old warehouses and shipfitters shops, have become part of an exciting boardwalk along the waterside. On arrival collect your hire acr and head for your hotel. Rest of the day at your leisure.

Day 2
Halifax – South Shore (120 km)
Atlantic Canada’s pirate coast, where millions of dollars are being spent to unearth pirate treasure. Visit Peggy’s Cove, Canada’s most photographed scenic village, and other historic villages along the seacoast.

South Shore – Wolfville (240 km)
In an area with as much wild lakes and rivers as forest, Kejimkujik features abundant wildlife and prehistoric Mi’kmaq-Indian campsites. Take a picnic lunch and enjoy a walk on a forest trail or try your hand at canoeing on the quiet waters of North America’s oldest canoe routes.

Wolfville – Moncton (300 km)
Travel past vineyards as you follow the shores of the Bay of Fundy, home of the world’s highest tides over 16 metres. An optional side trip takes you to Parrsboro and Joggins, where semi-precious gems and dinosaur fossils have been found.

Moncton – Fredericton (270 km)
Visit the scenic viewpoints in Fundy National Park and the nearby Hopewell Rocks Provincial Park. At low tide, you can walk along the beach among strange natural rock sculptures; 6 hours later, the tide has covered them with water. Continue to Fredericton, the provincial capital, more like a quiet riverside town than a city.

Fredericton – Riviere-du-Loup (400 km)
Follow the Saint John Valley, pass covered bridges and fertile farmland. After an option to
visit the gorge at Grand Falls, continue to the shores of the St. Lawrence River.

Riviere-du-Loup – Montreal (425 km)
Follow the St. Lawrence along the ”Route of the Voyageurs” to Montreal. Canada’s most cosmopolitan city – Montreal, welcomes you. From the amazing underground city centre to the top of the Olympic tower (the world’s tallest leaning tower) with its view of the city, the excitement is everywhere. Modern shopping areas vie for your attention with the peace of Mount Royal Park with its horse-drawn carriages.

The Laurentian Mountains are ”Montreal’s Playground” for outdoor sports, and feature activities and dining in superb forest settings. A jewel of this region is La Mauricie National Park, with its splendid forest trails and canoeing opportunities.

La Mauricie National Park
A day of exploration in La Mauricie, a national park which preserves the best of the Laurentian hills... beaver, moose, and common loon. Canoeing and hiking are good ways to enjoy the park, as are visiting the scenic viewpoints, or relaxing on a lakeshore.
Day 11
Shawinigan – Quebec City (170 km)
Quebec is a city made for walking, the only city in America with a true old walled city at its centre. Small cafes vie for your attention with magnificent views and modern shopping centres.

Quebec City – Tadoussac/St. Catherine (220 km)
Follow the north shore of the St. Lawrence River through the holiday region of Charlevoix. Travel past the wildly beautiful cliffs of Baie-Des-Rochers and the resident Beluga Whale population of Baie-Sainte-Catherine to Tadoussac, where the first 17th century ”trading post” was established. In the evening you may wish to join a whale-watching tour.

Tadoussac – Matane (230 km)
Follow the coast, which gradually becomes more rugged as the St. Lawrence River valley enters the Gulf, then cross the river by ferry (ferry included). The route gives a dramatic view of the St. Lawrence River wilderness.

Matane – Percé (360 km)
The Chic-Choc Mountains, hills which ”rise up like a wall at the edge of the world”, have an ecology much like Canada’s North, with moose and caribou. Forillon National Park preserves wild coastal landscapes and quiet fishing villages. At the land’s end you find the giant Percé Rock and Bonaventure Island, home of great seabird colonies.

Forillon National Park
Explore the park, with its quaint fishing villages, hiking-and bicycling-trails and splendid views, or visit Percé, with its famous pierced rock lying offshore, and Bonaventure Island, a famous nesting colony of Gannets. An optional 1.5 hours cruise takes you to the island.
Day 16
Percé – Dalhousie (275 km)
After exploring the magnificent sea and mountain scenery of the Carleton area, you continue along the north shore of the Baie Des Chaleur to Miguasha Provincial Park, where you can search for fossils before continuing to New Brunswick.

Dalhousie – Kouchibouguac NP – Shediac/Moncton (325 km)
You enter the forested heart of New Brunswick – real ”Lumberjack Country”. Cross the Miramichi River, Canada’s world famous salmon river. The long sand beaches of Kouchibouguac National Park have the warmest ocean water on your trip. The lagoons are one of the most productive eco-systems in the world.

Shediac/Moncton – Charlottetown (100 km)
The 13 km long ”Confederation Bridge” brings you to Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province, and its favourite holiday destination. You might want to attend a traditional community ”lobster supper”.

Prince Edward Island National Park (100 km)
This park protects miles upon miles of beautiful seacoast and an old wooden farmhouse that shows life on the island over 100 years ago, the setting for a famous novel, ”Anne of Green Gables”.

The hardwood hills of eastern Nova Scotia hide many scenic treasures perhaps the most lovely is the beautiful Lake Bras D’Or. Bald eagles are very abundant.
