Day 2 Calgary Widely regarded as the “gateway to the Rockies”, and home to the famous Stampede, Calgary is a stylish and friendly city. Your morning is at leisure to start to explore this city of contrasts or for some shopping. Visit TD Square, the Eaton Centre or Hudson’s Bay shopping areas, all of which are linked by Calgary’s Plus 15 walkway system. In the afternoon why not take a guided sightseeing tour of the highlights of Calgary – Scotsman Hill, Fort Calgary (the original base of the North West Mounted Police), Stampede Park, the Saddledome and Ski Jump Tower at Olympic Park?
Days 3/4 Calgary – Kananaskis (53 miles) The mountains beckon. Collect your hire car from downtown before heading west into the Rockies to beautiful Kananaskis Village. To the southwest of Banff National Park, 'K Country' as it is known, is an unspoiled paradise. Full of picture perfect mountain scenery, wildlife and flora, Kananaskis Country can be visited at any time of the year. Combine a scenic trail ride with the heart-racing adventure of whitewater rafting along the Kananaskis River, and the 36-hole Kananaskis Country Golf Course challenges all levels of golfers. Afterwards why not try a spa treatment at your hotel? Overnights(2): Kananaskis
Days 5-7 Kananaskis to Banff (28 miles) Sometimes regarded as one of the most attractive small towns in North America, Banff is compact enough to comfortably explore on foot. Situated on the doorstep of spectacular scenery, Banff nestles amidst the glory of the Canadian Rockies. With a wealth of attractions, ranging from the Hot Springs to the gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, Banff boasts an attractive main street with numerous cafes and craft shops. Overnights(3): Banff
Days 8-9 Banff to Lake Louise (33 miles) Enjoy a leisurely drive through glorious scenery to Lake Louise. Two days to savour the beautiful surroundings of Lake Louise, which with its blue-green water set against the stark backdrop of Victoria Glacier, is probably the most photographed scene in the Canadian Rockies. The village of Lake Louise holds an array of fine dining and shopping. Scenic drives will take you to the awe-inspiring Moraine Lake, the beautiful Icefields Parkway and the Athabasca Glacier or enjoy a boat trip on nearby Lake Minnewanka to Devil’s Gap. Overnights(2): Lake Louise
Days 10-11 Lake Louise to Emerald Lake (12 miles) Travel the short distance to a beautiful lodge set right on Emerald Lake in Yoho National Park. The park located on the British Columbia/Alberta border is home to waterfalls, glacial lakes, snow-topped mountain peaks, roaring rivers, deep silent forests, and spiral tunnels inside the mountains. Through erosion, nature has carved some of the most dramatic landscapes in the country. Overnights(2): Field
Day 12
Field – Jasper (152 miles) Enjoy a spectacular drive today through stunning scenery along the Icefields Parkway. En route visit the Columbia Icefield, the largest accumulation of snow and ice in the Rockies and take the ‘snocoach’ ride onto the Athabasca Glacier. Lake Louise, with its sparkling blue waters and mountain goats on Mount Fairview, is also worth a stop as are the thundering Athabasca Falls. Overnights(3): Jasper
Days 13-14
Jasper
Enjoy a day at leisure to delight in the peaceful, magnificent surroundings of Jasper National Park. A showcase of glacial blue lakes, long ridge-top hikes, canyons and a world-class golf resort, the town of Jasper is a sleepy sanctuary, known as a refuge for bighorn sheep, elk, deer and moose - all of which have been spotted wandering its streets. A trip to the exquisite Maligne Lake, the second largest glacier-fed lake in the Rockies, is well recommended where a cruise will take you past glacier-studded mountain peaks to world-famous Spirit Island.
Days 15-16 Jasper to Edmonton (227 miles) Drive to Edmonton the capital city of Alberta which is well known for its scenic river valley and a thriving music and art community. It is home to North America's largest shopping and entertainment complex, West Edmonton Mall. More than just a shopping centre, West Edmonton Mall also has a giant water park, a man-made lake, a skating rink, two mini-golf courses, 21 movie theatres, a Vegas-style casino and an amusement park with 25 rides and attractions. The Muttart Conservatory, an expansive horticultural spectacle, is noted for its unique architecture, as is the remarkable Alberta Legislature Building. Fort Edmonton Park is a large living history museum that recognizes Edmonton's past through a series of interactive restorations. Overnights(2): Edmonton
