Day 1 UK – Campbell River Your Canada holiday starts from London Heathrow airport with Air Canada to Vancouver and then onward to Campbell River. You will be transferred on arrival to your hotel. Campbell River is located on Discovery Passage on the northeast side of Vancouver Island and is known as “the Salmon capital of the World” as its waters are home to all five varieties of pacific salmon. Overnight(1): Campbell River - Heron's Landing Hotel.
Days 2-3 Knight Inlet You are transferred to the seaplane terminal for your flight to Knight Inlet. Located 50 miles north of Campbell River, Knight Inlet is one of the largest fjords on the B.C. coast. Situated 37 miles from the mouth of the inlet is Knight Inlet Lodge. The floating lodge is tucked into Glendale Cove, which offers one of the few protected anchorages in the inlet. Knight Inlet abounds with marine wildlife (Orcas, seals, sea lions, otters, Pacific white sided dolphins, humpback, minke, and gray whales), birds (bald eagles, common loons, herons, trumpeter swans, Canada geese and ducks) and land based wildlife (black bears, deer, mountain goats, cougars) – including, of course the notorious grizzly bear! Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly (brown) bears in British Columbia. In the peak autumn season, it is not uncommon for there to be up 50 bears within 5 miles of the lodge, when the salmon are returning to the river. Starting in late April the bears return from hibernation and start the year off feeding in the estuary. This is the time to see the tiny cubs emerge with their ever-cautious mothers in close proximity. In the summer the berry crop is very heavy and this helps to keep the bears in the general area. Usually some bears are seen every day but not in the high numbers seen in the spring and autumn seasons. Overnights(2): Knight Inlet Lodge - Knight Inlet
Day 4 Knight Inlet – Vancouver The floatplane will return you to Campbell River where you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight to Vancouver. On arrival a private transfer will be provided to your centrally located hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure. Overnights(3): Vancouver
Days 5-6 Vancouver Explore this beautiful, water-fronted city. Visit Stanley Park with its renowned aquarium and collection of totem poles, Chinatown, Victorian Gastown and the harbour area on the included sightseeing tour. Granville Island, overlooking attractive False Creek, with its wealth of craft shops, markets and range of superb restaurants is well worth a visit. If time permits why not take the gondola to the summit of Grouse Mountain, timing your descent in the evening to see the myriad lights of Vancouver reflected in the harbour before you. Alternatively, visit the Capilano Canyon and dare to walk across the famous suspension bridge as it gently sways 230 feet above the river.
Day 7 Vancouver – Kamloops Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. En route you will pass through the fertile Fraser Valley and the scenic Fraser Canyon. one of the canyon's true highlights is Hell's Gate, where you will watch water torrent past the canyon's walls at its narrowest point. Upon leaving the Fraser Canyon, the train will follow the Thompson River to the city of Kamloops. Breakfast & Lunch Included. Overnight(1): Kamloops
Day 8 Kamloops to Banff Your journey continues eastwards to the mighty Canadian Rockies. once again you will see a spectacular range of scenery as you travel across ranchlands, along rocky lakeshores, over high mountain passes and through the remarkable tunnels that form part of the rich history of the Canadian Rockies. Today’s highlights include Craigellachie where the last spike of the Canadian Pacific Railway was driven, the climb over Rogers Pass, the Kicking Horse Canyon and the Spiral Tunnels of Yoho National Park and of course the glaciers and snow-capped peaks of the Canadian Rockies. Breakfast & Lunch Included. Overnights(3): Banff
Days 9-10 Banff Situated on the doorstep of spectacular scenery, Banff nestles amidst the glory of the Canadian Rockies and boasts an attractive main street with numerous cafes and craft shops. Enjoy an included full-day tour along the Icefields Parkway to the awesome Columbia Icefield. A picnic lunch is included and a ride on the Athabasca Glacier in a snocoach.
