Day 1 UK – Campbell River Your Canada holiday starts with a departure from London Heathrow airport on an Air Canada flight to Vancouver and then onward to Campbell River. You will be transferred on arrival to your hotel. Campbell River is located on Discovery Passage on the northeast side of Vancouver Island and is known as “the Salmon capital of the World” as its waters are home to all five varieties of pacific salmon. Overnight(1): Campbell River - Heron's Landing.
Day 2 Knight Inlet You are transferred to the seaplane terminal for your flight to Knight Inlet. Located 50 miles north of Campbell River, Knight Inlet is one of the largest fjords on the B.C. coast. Situated 37 miles from the mouth of the inlet is Knight Inlet Lodge. The floating lodge is tucked into Glendale Cove, which offers one of the few protected anchorages in the inlet. Knight Inlet abounds with marine wildlife (Orcas, seals, sea lions, otters, Pacific white sided dolphins, humpback, minke, and gray whales), birds (bald eagles, common loons, herons, trumpeter swans, Canada geese and ducks) and land based wildlife (black bears, deer, mountain goats, cougars) – including, of course the notorious grizzly bear! Glendale Cove is home to one of the largest concentrations of grizzly (brown) bears in British Columbia. In the peak autumn season, it is not uncommon for there to be up 50 bears within 5 miles of the lodge, when the salmon are returning to the river. Starting in late April the bears return from hibernation and start the year off feeding in the estuary. This is the time to see the tiny cubs emerge with their ever-cautious mothers in close proximity. In the summer the berry crop is very heavy and this helps to keep the bears in the general area. Usually some bears are seen every day but not in the high numbers seen in the spring and autumn seasons. Overnight(1): Knight Inlet
Day 3 Knight Inlet – Vancouver The floatplane will return you to Campbell River where you will be transferred to the airport for your scheduled flight to Vancouver. on arrival a private transfer will be provided to your centrally located hotel. The rest of your day is at leisure.
Overnights(3): Vancouver
Days 4-5 Vancouver Explore this beautiful, water-fronted city. Visit Stanley Park with its renowned aquarium and collection of totem poles, Chinatown, Victorian Gastown and the harbour area on the included sightseeing tour. Granville Island, overlooking attractive False Creek, with its wealth of craft shops, markets and range of superb restaurants is well worth a visit. If time permits why not take the gondola to the summit of Grouse Mountain, timing your descent in the evening to see the myriad lights of Vancouver reflected in the harbour before you. Alternatively, visit the Capilano Canyon and dare to walk across the famous suspension bridge as it gently sways 230 feet above the river.
Day 6 Vancouver – Kamloops Travel onboard the Rocky Mountaineer from Vancouver to Kamloops in the interior of British Columbia. En route you will pass through the fertile Fraser Valley and the scenic Fraser Canyon. one of the canyon's true highlights is Hell's Gate, where you will watch water torrent past the canyon's walls at its narrowest point. Upon leaving the Fraser Canyon, the train will follow the Thompson River to the city of Kamloops. Breakfast & Lunch Included Overnight(1): Kamloops
Day 7 Kamloops - Jasper Back onboard the Rocky Mountaineer you will follow the Thompson River through rolling plateaus into the snowy peaks of the Monashee and Cariboo Mountains. Pass by Mt. Robson, the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies at 3954 meters (12,972 ft), before entering Jasper National Park. Arrive in Jasper late afternoon. Breakfast & Lunch Included Overnights(3): Jasper
Days 8-9 Jasper Collect your hire car and enjoy the scenic wonders of Jasper National Park. A showcase of pearly blue lakes, long ridge-top hikes, canyons and a world-class golf resort, the town of Jasper is considered a throwback to a gentler time. It's a casual reminder of the splendid grace of steamer trunks and luxurious long distance rail travel, of swarthy explorers, of intrepid Swiss mountain guides and tough talkin' miners. Today Jasper is a sleepy sanctuary, known as a refuge for bighorn sheep, elk, deer and moose - all of which have been spotted wandering its streets. A trip to the exquisite Maligne Lake, the second largest glacier-fed lake in the Rockies, is well recommended where a cruise will take you past glacier-studded mountain peaks to world-famous Spirit Island.
Day 10 Jasper – Banff (173 miles) Travel the Icefields Parkway through the natural splendour of Jasper and Banff National Parks. Glistening glaciers, cascading waterfalls, emerald lakes and alpine meadows dot this awe-inspiring mountain paradise. Stop at the Columbia Icefield, and, weather permitting, why not take the ‘snocoach’ ride onto the Athabasca Glacier to walk on this huge expanse of ice. Afterwards view the turquoise waters of Lake Louise before arriving into Banff. Overnights(4): Banff
Days 11–13 Banff Situated on the doorstep of spectacular scenery, Banff nestles amidst the glory of the Canadian Rockies. With a wealth of attractions, ranging from the Hot Springs to the gondola ride to the summit of Sulphur Mountain, Banff boasts an attractive main street with numerous cafes and craft shops. Renowned for its winter activities, Banff is also the summer “gateway” to National Parks and the scenic splendour of the Icefields Parkway.
Day 14 Banff – Calgary (74 miles) Today drive to Calgary a stylish, and friendly city. Its history comes alive at Heritage Park, Canada's largest living historical village, at the Glenbow Museum and at the site of Calgary's birthplace, Fort Calgary. Discover Canada Olympic Park, site of the 1988 Olympics and travel to the top of the ski-jump tower or, for a spectacular view of the city’s heart, ascend Calgary tower. Return your hire car at Calgary Airport prior to your overnight flight to the UK.
