Day 1
UK – Halifax
Your Canada holiday starts with Air Canada from London Heathrow to Halifax. On arrival pick up your hire car. Halifax, Canada’s traditional gateway to the world, combining charming old wooden homes and Victorian parks with modern shopping centres. The larges city in the region, it is home to 5 universities and several colleges and has the ambience of an old university town. Ships, from the tall ship Bluenose II to naval vessels, can still be seen in the magnificent harbour, but warehouses and shipfitters shops have become a tourist centre along the waterside.

Day 2
Halifax – South Shore/Liverpool (160 km)
This was a home for pirates and smugglers for the past 300 years. Tiny, rocky harbours and fishing villages where th fishermen go out each day to trap lobsters are interspersed with wild islands and long stretches of sandy beaches. Visit Peggy’s Cove and Lunenburg, two picturesque coastal villages.

Day 3
South Shore/Liverpool – Kejimkujik NP/Digby (160 km)
Kejimkujik National Park, the 380 sqkm of forests, lakes and rivers, contains rock drawings and an Indian graveyard which are illustrations of an Indian life that goes back almost 5000 years. Turtles up to 40 cms in diameter are abundant, a sign of hot summers

Kejimkujik NP/Digby area
The Bay of Fundy offers excellent whale-watching opportunities with a larger variety and number of whales than other parts of Canada. Alternatively, explore Kejimkujik National Park
Day 5
Kejimkujik NP/Digby – Wolfville (140 km)
Your route today takes you through the Annapolis Valley, a lush agricultural area of east Canada. As the oldest settled part of Canada it reflects, with ornate patrician wooden houses, the 300 years of prosperity the farmers and forest owners have enjoyed. Lobster dinners are a speciality of this area.

Day 6
Wolfville – Parrsboro (175 km)
Visit the Grand Pre Winery for a Tour & Wine Tasting. The Bay of Fundy is home to the world’s highest tides. Large tidal rivers expose broad expanses of mud banks and salt marshes (an Eldorado for many migrating birds) at low tide. Hours later they are covered with over twelve metres of water. Scenic views of pastoral valleys can be obtained from the surrounding forested hills.

Day 7
Parrsboro – Shediac/Sackville (160 km)
Explore the Parrsboro-Joggins area, where the giant tides of the Bay of Fundy have recently exposed the largest cache of fossil bones in North America. The fossilized footprints of millions of years of creatures can also be seen along the shore. Amethyst and agate can also be found on the beaches.

Day 8
Fundy National Park (270 km)
Fundy National Park, 206 sq km in area, is a sancturary of steep coastal cliffs and clear streams. At low tide one can walk through the Hopewell Rocks, shaped like giant vases, nearly covered by the tide every six hours. Enjoy a Lobster Tour in the afternoon.
Day 9
Shediac/Sackville – O'Leary/Alberton (170 km)
An 13 km crossing of Northumberland Strait on the new “Confederation Bridge” brings you to Prince Edward Island, with its endless sand beaches, tiny farms, and picturesque country roads. You stay overnight near a Provincial Park where a variety of activities are offered.

Day 10
O'Leary/Alberton – Charlottetown (160 km)
Prince Edward Island National Park features a 19th century wooden farmhouse, famous as the inspiration for the classic novel "Anne of Green Gables". Seal-watching cruises are available, and return in time for you to enjoy the evening in Charlottetown, the provincial capital. Overnight(1): Charlottetown
Day 11
Charlottetown – Margaree/Glenville (340 km)
This morning cross by ferry to Nova Scotia (not included). River estuaries in this region are rich with fish, and these attract large numbers of Ospreys which can often be seen diving for fish. Cormorant nests can be observed from the roadside. The rolling hills lead you to the wilder scenery of Cape Breton Island.

Day 12
Margaree/Glenville – Sydney (300 km)
Why not take part in a whale-watching cruise or enjoy the drive around the Cabot Trail, one of eastern Canada’s most popular scenic drives. Waterfalls and swift running streams can be found near the road, and chances for seeing moose before you reach Sydney are excellent.

Day 13
Sydney – Eastern Shore (260 km)
A side trip leads to the Fortress of Louisbourg, Canada’s largest National Historic Park, and the strongest French fortress ever built in the Americas. Between the first of June and the end of September, costumed "animators" live in the fortress, making it come alive as it was in the summer of 1744.

Day 14
Eastern Shore – Halifax (200 km)
The "Marine Drive" drive back to Halifax takes you through forests at the head of harbours and over low hills. Many excellent ocean views are available from small side roads to the shore. Smoked salmon (they can be taken home), mackerel, and eels can be purchased in the area.

Time for last minute shopping before you return your hire car and catch your flight back home.
