Guide to Canada

Canada, a land of stunning contrasts where the breathtaking scenery is only matched by the genuine warmth of welcome and hospitality.

From the rugged Eastern and Maritime coastlines of Newfoundland and Nova Scotia to the exuberance and joie de vivre of the French Canadian cities of Quebec, Montreal and Ottawa, the eastern provinces are still largely undiscovered. Perhaps visit Toronto and the experience the never to be forgotten spectacle of Niagara Falls before venturing west to the majesty of the Canadian Rockies.

Alberta and British Columbia offer unsurpassed mountains, glaciers, forests and emerald blue lakes. This truly beautiful landscape has no less than seven National Parks with each one containing diverse wildlife and unspoilt scenery, as well as being the location of world-class mountain resorts such as Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper.

On the Pacific coast are the cities of Vancouver, with its spectacular setting as it nestles between ocean and mountains, and the capital of British Columbia, graceful Victoria. Travelling north will bring you to a remote and untouched landscape with its rich heritage of trapping, gold-prospecting and pure wilderness.

Wherever you choose to go, or whatever you choose to do, Canada is a land for all. We are certain that once you've experienced a Canadian holiday you'll want to return again and again. Allow us the privilege of helping you discover Canada's 'true nature'.

Canadian Regions

The reasons to come to Canada are as vast as the country's size. With a variety of beautiful sites, coupled with the warmth and friendliness that makes Canada so well regarded internationally, any of the cities alone would be justification for a visit. When you couple that with the splendour and majestic solitude of Canada's lakes, rivers, and mountains, you realize that Canada is a country of very diverse cultural and geographical features. We would be pleased to discuss any of our multi-centre, fly drive itineraries or, if you prefer we’ll create a tailor made holiday for you. Perhaps consider an escorted coach tour or one of our rail holidays but, whatever you decide, a Canadian holiday is always something very special.

Western Canada

Not only does this region encompass the jagged ridges of the incredible Rocky Mountains, but there are, in the far north, thousands of acres of dense forest, mountains and wilderness.

Calgary, with its Stampede, is often regarded as the gateway to this stunning area with Banff and Jasper National Parks, Lake Louise, wildlife, winter sports and native culture being among the main attractions. Several routes cross these magnificent mountains, roads taking advantage of natural passes carved by the rushing torrents of meltwater or, for many a favoured method is by rail. The two day train journey by the Rocky Mountaineer is an experience to be savoured for years to come.

On their own, mountains can be majestic, and any seashore can be a place of beauty, but when mountains plunge into deep blue waters, the panorama can be breathtaking. Add in tall forests, great rivers, rare birds, whales, salmon, bears, boats and small villages, and you've arrived at the west coast.

Those who have no desire to look at even a single eagle or glacier will find the cities of Victoria and, especially Vancouver to be urban jewels almost as outstanding as the region?s natural resources. Be aware, however, that these cities are still within gazing distance of the mountains and the sea: escaping the scenery in Western Canada is no easy task.

Eastern Canada

Eastern Canada has many national parks where, it often seems, only the changes of the seasons mark the passage of time. From the taiga and tundra landscapes in the north to the myriad of lakes winding through forested hills of the Laurentian Mountains and the dramatic coastline of the Gaspe Peninsula, Eastern Canada is still largely undiscovered.

Quebec City is unique in that its special appeal is rooted in its compelling mix of North American heritage and French birthright. Toronto has a colourful ethnic mix, rich history and breathtaking architecture whilst the nation?s capital, Ottawa, located at the confluence of three picturesque rivers, is considered by many to be one of the world?s most beautiful capitals and there is, of course Niagara Falls, the most famous water spectacle of them all.

Maritime Canada

Historical Maritime Canada is known for its great coastline, popular islands and distinguished culture. New Brunswick offers visitors many diverse cultural activities, such as festivals museums and galleries. Enjoy whale watching in Newfoundland and visit extraordinary bays and small villages. Picturesque maritime scenery is to be found in Nova Scotia, along with historical artefacts from Atlantic Canada's past. The area has many national parks where, it often seems, only the changes of the seasons mark the passage of time. From the taiga and tundra landscapes in the north to the myriad of lakes winding through forested hills of the Laurentian Mountains and the dramatic coastline of the Gaspe Peninsula, Eastern Canada is still largely undiscovered.
